Research of Photoshop

As I am new to photoshop as I am taking photos for my magazine, I thought I would research how to change effects and things you can do on  photoshop for example changing their hair or getting rid of spots. This would help me with the making of my magazine so before I even start changing the photos I have took I will know how to do certain things on photoshop so I will make it the best I can.

Focus group response

The focus group questions I asked I think really helped me and were useful for my creation of my magazine, it'll help me what type of colours, artists to include in my magazine for my target audience. My target audience for my magazine is the same age of what the age of the people that answered my questions for my focus group. This helps me find out what people like to see in pop magazines or what they don't. I will adjust from what decisions I will make when creating my magazine from the help of the responses. I found out that young teenagers like regular magazines that could be published either weekly or monthly also the types of colours they like to see in magazines. I also have found of from constructing my focus group that people would rather buy hard copies rather then digital copies. It hasn't made me change any initial ideas because all my questions that I asked helped me with what I was going to include anyways in my magazine. I found what types of artists they are interested in and who they wouldn't like to see. This will guide me to see what teenagers in this generation are interested in so I could make my pop magazine up to date so it will appeal to my target audience. My focus group also helped me set the price of my magazine to be about £4.

L.I.I.A.R Analysis of a music magazine

Social Class Table

The social class I will be aiming at for my magazine is class E which is those at the lowest levels of subsistence which is students, I think my type of magazine I will produce will relate to students really well, my genre also links with the social class as young people tend to listen to more pop and upbeat music with the artists in this genre, but more older people would prefer to listen to more old songs which isn't pop music. More students also would have more time to read music magazines as they are in college or university but more adults have a family and full time jobs which wouldn't make my magazine sell because they won't have as much time to read it therefore they wouldn't buy it or if they do, they wouldn't buy it as often, this is why students will appeal to it more. The main things I would do to adhere to students needs for the magazine is that I would make my magazine bright and colourful so that they are attracted to it, so they will buy it. This also will clearly separate my magazine which is for students from the more the older magazines for example gardening, cooking etc. I would also make my gifts and prizes more young and which would be ideal for students rather then something like a weekend away which would much more appeal to adults. I would also include  more gossip stories in my magazine which they would find interesting to read rather then mature stories which students wouldn't enjoy reading and then get bored and not purchase my magazine again, this is very important as if it has more gossip stories included in my magazine they will be able to take the gossip they found and tell people, then make the magazine more popular. the price range i feel that I am going to target is between £1.50 to £2.50 as this is an amount that students would be able to afford weekly and will not have to stress that the magazine is maybe to much and will have to miss a week publish, with this price hopefully attract students to buy it as it is fairly cheap for a music magazine. For my music magazine for students they will be interested in free itunes money to use on itunes as our generation is very technological and listens to a lot of music, or maybe a disk made up of previews of new songs as teenagers will be very interested in this because they are always looking for new songs in the charts, another idea I could include is vouchers for shops that are popular such as Topshop, Zara, River Island etc. This also would be very effective for both genders too. The social class table will help me with my feature stories and target audience as I will know from looking at the social class table what different social classes will want to see, also with the target audience it helped because I could see who was in the social status and link with their occupation which helped me choose the students. Looking at the table also shows me that all the classes above class E are all working so this means that maybe if I did my target audience for working class etc, less magazines would get sold as they would be busy with work and wouldn't have time to read my magazine, I thought it would be much more effective setting my target audience as students as they would have more time on their hands.

Existing Questionnaire Research

As research I looked at this questionnaire which is from 'Q' magazine when trying to decide what questions to use for my focus group. Looking at this questionnaire helped me alot and put me on the right tracks on what I may need to ask my focus group on about magazines. Q1 really helped me with the decison of choice of questions to use, useful questions I have decided to ask for example liek Q1 on this questionnaire which is how long have you been buying a certain magazine. This is giving me an insight on what I need to include in my questions. Also Q ask how well Q magazine do the following and did a list that the audience could answer, using this type of question type will help find specifically what they are doing well or not so well, and if they get a lot of negative feedback they can change and improve their magazine so they get more buyers. Looking at 'Q' really helped me when chosing my questions for my own focus groups.

Costume Ideas

These a few of costume ideas I have put together what pop artists wear at the moment, if I dress my model in these types of clothes it will link in with my genre well. These clothes are quite casual but really nice with the eyeshadow eyes and the fancy necklaces. These clothes are in fashion at the moment so therefore the audience will appeal to these, and also will want to read the magazine because they will know it is up to date with fashion, which is what the audience will want. I thought that using these types of costumes it will really demostrate my genre of my magazine well.

Costume Research

I have looked on the internet and researched what type of clothes and outfits artists in my genre wear at the moment. I have found that mainly pop artists wear more casual but stunning clothes! This is what I will dress my models like for my own pop magazine. This has helped me a lot by searching this on the internet as I will be able to apply my knowledge to my magazine.

Colour Scheme Research

Here I have looked at different colour schemes to see what colours go well together that I can use in my magazine. Witth looking at these I have found I can see which go well together and which stand out next to each other so I can use these throughtout my magazine to make it stand from all other magazines. Choosing good colours are very important to make sure you can see exactly what needs to be shown and to make sure that you can see text against the colours I have chose. This is why this is very important to the part of creating my magazine for my front cover, contents page and double page spread.

I have also used a website called colourschemer.com which helped me to see what colours go well with others next to, I had to at first put in a colour I like which at this point I chosen pink as it is a girl pop magazine. Then after I had chosen this it automatically came up with colours that linked well with my chosen colour and look good next to each other. This will help me choose what colour I would want to work witt throughout my magazine. Out of these colours that links with my pink, its come up with purple and green work well with pink so I think I might use these colours together to make my magazine stand out.

Different names and fonts

I have chosen to try out different names and different fonts to see which ones I like for my magazine. I tried a range of fancy writing, bold and even pictures in the letters to get a variety. Looking at different fonts will help me choose what type of writing will look different and stand out along side other magazines. I have chosen to use an example of quite alot of plain fonts but these are very bold and bright which will look effective and catch the eye. All theses fonts and names link with my genre which is pop music because they are not a certain type of font they are curvy and bold. I do like quite alot of the fonts I chose but i especially like the 'Beats' one which the weird 's' on the end which does make the title look more like a pop style. The name I mainly prefer out of the three I have chosen is 'Beats' as this links with my genre because pop music are full of beats and can be up beat music. These are very fancy styles which I am aiming mine to be like so it connects with the whole type of magazine I will be producing. With these example you properly will be seeing a few of these on my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I think if I use simular or these titles I reckon my magazine will be very successful and will look good.

Barcode options for my magazine

I have looked at different barcodes to see which type of baracodes will match my genre, I thought rather then just having a normal black and white barcode I would look at different styles and colours to make it more like my genre which is pop. This will make my magazine not look like every other magazine and will stand out. I have experimented with these and compared.
